Post MEPIS 11 Community Repo: The Kdenlive Thread
The newest stable release of Kdenlive 0.8.2.1 is now available for testing in the main test and the KDE 4.6.5 experimental repositories. Bugs fixed are listed here:

http://kdenlive.org/discover/0.8.2.1
http://kdenlive.org/discover/0.8.2

They also use an updated set of MLT libraries and programs backported from Wheezy, and also need the newer ffmpeg in the main CR. To avoid some confusion between 1:0.6X versions in debian-multimedia, and the newer "0.7" version in the MEPIS repos, these are versioned 1:0.7.6.

I can't get the it to load. The cursor bounces but nothing happens.

Am using (trying to use...) the KDE 4.6.5 version.

The ffmpeg I have is 6.0.6.1-6mrc110.

Any ideas, please.

OK...the 4.6.5 version should be the mcr115+1 build. Let's do some detecting in the terminal--can you enter

apt-cache policy kdenlive

to make sure what you have?

And can you run "kdenlive" in the terminal to see what error messages show up?

Edit: I was not able to get the mcr115 version to show up as an upgrade in Synaptic, no matter the setting. I had to use the "force version" option in the package menu to install kdenlive and kdenlive-data mcr115+1.

OK-I found out the problem--had a difference in the -1 and -2 versions between the two, so the KDE 4.5.3 version is seen as higher. Hang on and I'll fix the versioning.

Thanks Stevo.
I removed kdenlive and then put on the latest upgrade.
It is working fine.

Post Re: MEPIS 11 Community Repo: The Kdenlive Thread
Kdenlive from both the CR and the above packages give me the same problem. (Both are version 0.8.2.1-2mcr115+1 so I assume they're actually the same.) I just get a bouncing cursor, but nothing happens. When run from the command line I get the error:

Code:
kdenlive: symbol lookup error: kdenlive: undefined symbol: _ZN3Mlt7Profile12set_explicitEi

I'm running KDE 4.6.5 with all upgrades, notably ffmpeg version 6:0.6.1-6mcr110+2.

Any suggestions to resolve this problem?

My problem was exactly the same with the bouncing cursor. I found I had to remove kdenlive before I installed the latest version, only then would it work.

I had already done that, and had tried again, but I still get the error.

After searching a bit more, I found this thread at the Kdenlive forums, that states that the problem has to do with the version of MLT (libmlt): according to this thread, Kdenlive 0.8.1 needs MLT 0.7.3.

I had libmlt4 version 0.7.0 installed, but newer versions were available in the Test CR. I've upgraded libmlt4, libmlt-data, libmlt++3 and melt to version 0.7.6-2mcr110+1 and now it works! Maybe these newer libraries should be included in the main CR/KDE repositories also?

Thanks!

Edit: I see these libraries are mentioned in Stevo's original post above, so that should have given me a clue. :-)

Well, I thought that the new build would depend on the latest version of mlt++ that it was built against, but I see by looking at the dependencies that it's considerably more slackadasical, just depending on the library without a version. I'll rebuild and tighten those up.

Bump: Kdenlive 0.9.4 is now in the test repository, built against an updated 0.8.8 set of mlt libraries and our latest ffmpeg/libav libraries. Make sure you upgrade mlt per the threads above.

Of note: The DVD wizard is fixed, and screen recording is now done with ffmpeg instead of recordmydesktop.

I notice that the two profiles that ship with Kdenlive for screen recording are misspelled, and the audio one calls out for pulse, which we don't have. I'd like to fix the spelling, sound recording, and add a couple profiles that use the faster xvid codec. Anyone have any suggestions for the commands?
