Mondo - Mindi Package for Mepis 11

#1 Postby k4aes » Tue May 01, 2012 6:58 pm

I just upgraded Mepis 8.5 to 11.0.12.
The upgrade went smoothly, and the OS is really great!
Thanks to all for making this upgrade possible.

I am looking for a Mondo - Mindi package that would be compatible for Mepis 11.
I located mondo_3.0.1-1_i386.deb & mindi_2.1.1-1_i386.deb from the Debian 6 site.
However there appears some depency issues.

I have used this program before and would love it if it could be made available for Mepis 11.

Thanks in advance for any response.

Richard

Does the 'mindi-busybox' package that's available in the stable repo give you what you're looking for?
Desktop: Custom build Asus/AMD/nVidia -- MX-15 KDE, MEPIS 11
Laptop: Acer Aspire 5250 -- MX-15

@k4aes,

When you say you "located mondo_3.0.1-1_i386.deb & mindi_2.1.1-1_i386.deb from the Debian 6 site" I'm assuming you mean this site here. I'm also assuming you've added one of the repos shown below, if you haven't add one of them.

Code: Select all

deb ftp://ftp.mondorescue.org//debian/ 6.0 contrib

Code: Select all

deb ftp://project-builder.org//debian/ 6.0 contrib

Use apt-get or aptitude to install mondo (I can't get Synaptic to do it).

Also use the -t 'c=contrib' option {as shown} to prefer those repos when installing mondo.

Code: Select all

kent@mepis1:~$ apt-get install -t 'c=contrib' mondo -s
NOTE: This is only a simulation!
apt-get needs root privileges for real execution.
Keep also in mind that locking is deactivated,
so don't depend on the relevance to the real current situation!

Thanks for your reply. I had already installed the mindi-busybox, but it did not seem complete.

Thank you for your response.
I tried to add the repository suggested: deb ftp://ftp.mondorescue.org//debian/ 6.0 contrib
When reloading the package information, got following error:

[Could not download all repository indexes

The repository may no longer be available or could not be contacted because of network problems. If available an older version of the failed index will be used. Otherwise the repository will be ignored. Check your network connection and ensure the repository address in the preferences is correct.]

Failed to fetch ftp://ftp.mondorescue.org/dists/debian/ ... ackages.gz Unable to fetch file, server said 'Failed to open file. '
Some index files failed to download, they have been ignored, or old ones used instead.

Will try this again tomorrow.

Thanks for your suggestion.

Doublecheck the repo entry you added.

I added it by editting /etc/apt/sources.list in nano and adding it as shown in my first post.

If you added it using Synaptic you might have gotten some of the fields wrong.

In Synaptic the fields should look like:

      URI: ftp://ftp.mondorescue.org//debian/
      Distribution: 6.0
      Section(s): contrib

btw, I'm not sure about that double slash between the '.org' and the 'debian'. It works for me with a double or single slash but I left it with the double slash because that's how it was listed here: ftp://ftp.mondorescue.org/debian/6.0/mondorescue.sources.list

Corrected the Repository entry in Synaptic:
URI: ftp://ftp.mondorescue.org//debian/
Distribution: 6.0
Section(s): contrib

Reloaded the package information successfully.

Opened up a terminal in root.

Ran the simulation, looked good:

Excellent!!
I typed in mindi, and everything appears to come up properly.
I cancelled this just wanted give it test.

Now I downloaded a pdf document on Mondo Rescue to refresh proper use of program.
<http://www.mondorescue.org/docs.shtml>
I have used this before, and it has successfully restored my full Linux system. It was amazing to see how well it worked for me.

I am most grateful for the guidance provided here.
Now I can make an image of the system that I can have ready for any needed restoration.

My thanks to kmathern and uncle mark your your kind response.
Without this assistance I would still be scratching my head.

Richard
