 Java doesn't work in Firefox
I haven't needed to use java for some time. I went to a site today that asked for the plugin to be enabled. I thought it was already enabled.
I checked for previous threads about this. So in Firefox config I set dom.ipc.plugins.java.enabled to True and checked that I had icedtea6-plugin and openjdk installed. I went back to the site and still no java.
I suspect I'm missing something basic. But, please, what do I do?

Re: Java doesn't work in Firefox
Check some of the test links in the wiki. -- to rule out a problem with site you are trying.
Cheers

Re: Java doesn't work in Firefox
Not sure what that config is, but mine is set to false and I haven't had any java issues. I am using the sun-java, however. Cheers

Re: Java doesn't work in Firefox
I looked at the mepis wiki and couldn't find the test links. The wiki dealing with java is so large that it was like looking for a needle in a haystack. Maybe I should use sun-java, but there were warnings that the version 6 was not secure and it was best to use others. Thanks for your help.

Try these links (from another thread): http://www.java.com/en/download/testjava.jsp http://javatester.org/version.htmlhttp://java.com/en/download/installed.jspIf they work for you, then perhaps the problem lies with the site you are trying to use.

Re: Java doesn't work in Firefox
Thanks for this. Yes Java does work with them, but I see that I am using version 6-18 and version 6-31 (or was it 32) is available. Would it be worth installing that and if so would it be OK to use the Ubuntu deb or the bin file.

I use the .bin self-extractor.
