Re: "safely remove" usb thumb drives
I use Places because I almost always have a Dolphin window open and it's closer for me. If not then the Device Notifier works fine.
And I'd hate to choose between the two of you as to which screenshot was more informative/artistic, bigger, or better presented.

I didn't post mine so as not to steal his fire.

Re: "safely remove" usb thumb drives
Just to avoid misleading anyone - the 'safely remove' on right click only appears if the thumb drive is mounted. When first plugged in, it shows up in Dolphin but is unmounted and right clicking doesn't mount it.
(This is information for the awkward squad - I can't believe anyone would try 'safely remove' an unmounted drive.)

That's my "work" thumb drive. A lot of that stuff is what I need when I set up a new machine. Been carrying it around my neck for a long time. It's my geek amulet.

For mounting it you just click on the drive (in the Places section).
