Cannot access USB drive through desktop shortcut
I have been having problems with accessing the USB drive through the link on the desktop for some time now. I get it to work by changing the "Device" under "Properties" and then I have to do it again after a while. Sometime its /mnt/sdb1 and at other time its /media/sdb1 and sometime /media/ with a lsit of 40 + digits and numbers?
I am now unable to change the device as I only have the option to choose /mnt/sdb1 and when I open the drive from the panel I get this address /media/624281e9-ba51-4c0e-9437-50bf54d2cf14
Is there a way to force the USB drive to use the same device all the time?
Thanks,
Michel

Re: Cannot access USB drive through desktop shortcut
Off the top of my head, I'd suggest creating a mount point for it, then set up an fstab entry using either the drive label or UUID.

Re: Cannot access USB drive through desktop shortcut
For USB-connected drives you should probably go with using UUID. See: http://www.mepis.org/docs/en/index.php?title=Uuid

Re: Cannot access USB drive through desktop shortcut
I have a USB harddrive and no problems accessing it from desktop it is setup as a hard drive with /dev/sdb1 right click desktop> Create New>Link to Device>Hard disk device, then under device select /dev/sdb1 or type it in.
You probably already knew the procedure, hope this helps.
But be advised if you plug some other USB storage device in first that will be sdb1.

Re: Cannot access USB drive through desktop shortcut
The problem seems to occur if I access the USB drive through an application BEFORE I click on the desktop link. I will figure this out. Thanks.
Michel
NB: Not really!
