Re: KDE 4.7.2 made it into the experimental qt-kde repositor

#31 Postby dsptech » Tue Nov 29, 2011 12:26 pm

32bit (_i386.deb) packages are now available in the qt-kde repo.

There are 3 packages in the 64bit package list that aren't yet in the 32bit list

Code: Select all

kent@mepis1:~$ comm -23 <(grep "Package: " Downloads/64bitPackages |sort) <(grep "Package: " /var/lib/apt/lists/qt-kde.debian.net_debian_dists_experimental-snapshots_main_binary-i386_Packages|sort)
Package: libdlrestrictions1
Package: libdlrestrictions-dev
Package: pkg-kde-tools
kent@mepis1:~$

Woohoo, that's awesome!
Can you please let us know when the repo is complete?

I don't really know what a "complete" repo consists of, though I'm assuming the 64bit repo is fairly complete with the exception of the kdepim packages they mentioned here: http://lists.debian.org/debian-kde/2011 ... 00018.html

I did a comparison between the 32 & 64 bit package lists and noted the differences.

KDE 4.7.2 will not install in a Mepis system, as Mepis uses a squeeze base, the minimum requirement to install 4.7.2 is a wheezy base.
You need to run full-upgrade, not upgrade.

thanks big guy,

very nice! I tried it last night with 32bit sid, and brought everything up to date, but no 4.7 yet. switched over to M11 wheezy and it was easy (hey, that rhymes) already had the repo and keys set up, so I just downloaded and installed with 64bit xfce4; de not wm :) took a few minutes = full-upgrade.
kde4.7.2-debian.jpg
my kde looks just like that, but with a different wallpaper (same as the skydome) and to all appearances is actually quicker than the xfce4 on this machine <<go debian, woot>> totally stable so far (not even a blink, well maybe one) ;). I can't seem to use the deform plugin with the intel drivers from wheezy though. I usually prefer a three sided round cube and no cube caps :smiley2:.

great work guys

one of my squeezes (?) uses sid and experimental for kde, so no help for testing, but one is just squeaky clean (from one of the rcs though) 4.6.5 from the cr currently :number1:.

Danum, are you going to create one of your handy dandy instruction lists for this?

I will see if I can do one next week, but be warned it is not a straight foreword upgrade by any means, hope you have a good internet connection because you will need one
It will be for a 32 bit as there is no way a 64 bit Mepis 11.0. will even boot to the login screen on my test box.

I have a fast connection and I'm running 32bit.
I appreciate you doing this and I'm looking forward to your write up.

Just did a 32 bit upgrade and all seemed very straight forward. The partition is a M11 which was was upgrade to 4.6.5 using one of Danum's post from a sometime ago. I added the experimental repos and the wheezy one, reloaded, then followed the instructions on the http://qt-kde.debian.net/ website.

Rebooted and all is running fine so far.
