BTW: man, would it be nice to have a series of short KDE vids like this! Anybody interested in doing some? What is he using for software? And what format?

What is he using for software? And what format?

It doesn't matter which software he is using, recordmydesktop is installed by default in Mepis 11.0 so install gtk-recordmydesktop and use that.
Formats, recordmydesktop makes a ogv file, that needs converting to MP4 for you tube.
