I think MEPIS was launched before KANOTIX

I wouldn't argue with that. I should have said that I discovered them in that order. Although I came on board at 2003.10 it was not the first version of SM.

That's the same release I started with.

I remember I was playing around with Mandrake at the time and I had ordered several CD's from (I don't think they are in business anymore). They had a deal if you ordered a certain number of cd's (nine or ten) you got one free. MEPIS 2003.10 was my freebie and it worked better than Mandrake. So I dropped Mandrake and have been using MEPIS ever since.

Post Re: Chart of Linux
I got started with Linux and Simply Mepis on Feb 7, 2005 after acquiring Robin Miller's Point and Click Linux book. I went from a corrupted (probably due to ill advised downloads, infested with malware, for security and machine maintanence) Win98 machine to Mepis from a install included with this book. A reissue of this book to reflect the current status of Mepis, I think would be of great benefit to the Mepis cause. Without this book and included then current version of Mepis CD, I am not sure how I would have discovered or learned how to install or use Linux and Mepis. I have never looked back and have been happy for many reasons with Mepis and Linux ever since.

Klaus has just let 6.5 out of the stable.

I always have a look at what it has to offer and his current offering gives options on over 3000 packages.
