Like this www.flickr.com/photos/23959276@N07/3755154658/sizes/l/ I also made a 1280X1024 www.flickr.com/photos/23959276@N07/3755197662/sizes/o/

After getting it on my desktop the LOGO seems to be a bit to big and it would be nice if it could be made smaller, the LOGO that is.

That is one of the very best KDE 4 branded wallpapers I have ever seen! Very nice work!

Edit: I just tried the wallpaper on my desktop and you are right, the logo is kind of big. You are on to something really nice though!

Here is what the wallpaper looks like in KDE 4.2.4 using a wide screen monitor.

Has anybody figured out how to change the colors of the panel, does it use panel wallpaper like 3.5 did?

Hey Jimmy

I am very impressed with the look, especially the logo. Very well done.
I would love to create something similar, what application did you use to generate the image. Also I think someone mentioned having the Logo as a widget separate for KDE4.x that would be very neat

Mostly is used gimp but also photoshop.

Metallic: Its done using 4 layers of the same image (in this case mepis logo). All those layers have different opacity and effects like emboss and inner glow.

Background: I did bars and radial blurred those. Then I made those white spots to the other image. And little bit air brushing.

You can google and find many good tutorials for gimp and photoshop.
