No, 8.5 is based on Lenny (stable) but updated with KDE 4 desktop.

that's very sad wish they had 2 editions like debian, one testing and other stable, the packages are way to outdated! :(

Warren updates selected packages, and we do have the Community repository containing many updated packages. Remember also that Mepis focus is stability.

Do you have any in mind that are too old? We can always try and update them in the community repo.

not at the moment but i can take a look, I switch to other distro, the moment mepis move to debian stable, I use to love mepis i have a soft spot for it, just wish it would be more edgy. :( do you have the link to the community repo so I can take a look? thanks

Take a look here for some updates: http://www.mepiscommunity.org/en/8packagesand actually many packages are even newer than that in our test repository.
