Server Providers / Hosters

#1 Postby Brooko » Thu Jun 17, 2010 5:20 am

After last round of outages, I asked Warren if he'd consider an alternative provider (some of you suggested options at the time).

Warren's said that if we can recommend some good reliable ones - he'll look at them.

Serious replies only please. They must provide excellent service, good bandwidth and be reasonably priced.

Remember - the forum and mepis.com could end up on the hoster you recommend - so make sure you know who/what you're recommending.

Have at it .....

Why not have a mirror server set up as a backup for redundancy and/or load balancing as do many mail servers? They all keep in sync and if one goes down, all traffic is routed to another server in the interim.

I use http://canadianwebhosting.com/ and have no complaints. I have a Linux plan and remotely administer it several ways. Prices seem reasonable, no bandwidth issues, unlimited sub and parked domains, blah, blah, blah........

brooko, i understand if you don't want to post this info, but it might help people make better recommendations if they had an idea of the total average and maximum bandwidth that mepis servers use.

Shared or Dedicated

#6 Postby graak » Sat Jun 19, 2010 12:31 am

Is Mepis etc. on a dedicated server or a shared server environment. I can recommend allot I have used and still use, but it all depends on that. Bandwidth withstanding of course. All at reasonable prices. Oh and whether shared, dedicated or collocated, how much space is needed for all the Mepis stuff?

Didn't see the post

#7 Postby MrJohnBravo » Tue Jun 29, 2010 2:37 pm

I didn't see this post until today (been very busy lately). I will contact the associates I have at the hosting company I mentioned in the outages thread and see what they are willing to offer. The information Graak asked for would, I am sure, be extremely helpful in assisting their decisions about possible offerings.

Received a reply from Warren. He has a couple of things in the pipeline - but also notes that recently the service from his provider has increased. For the time being, he believes he has this under control.

Thanks for the input so far though. I'll resurrect thread later if it's required.

Here's his mail to me:
Hey Brooko,

My situation may be changing soon.
If so I may have a better solution for hosting.
Meanwhile, I think things have settled down at my current IPP.
So I'm inclined to wait.

Best,

Warren
