Thanks for the info. I'll give it a shot. Makes me think my supposition about the versions being pretty darn close wasn't that far off.

Worked for me, too.
Reminder to only upgrade firefox (and the libgtk dependency that went with it)... and as soon as that is done, uncheck those two 8.5 repos and reload synaptic.

Bump: I'm going to start a new Firefox3 thread for 8.0, I have a native Mepis 8.0 build of FF3 3.6.15-32-bit, but still have to set up the 64-bit virtual 8.0 machine.
