Thanks all for your feedback. I've improved my op to make it clearer.

So I make it 4 successes and one failure. Loco, I'm not sure what's going on with yours?

Mike, the way it works is that it copies the ISO file to /tmp modifies it with isohybrid and then copies it to the USB.

Anti, I'm not sure why it requires kdesu, but you can always try it with your preferred method and see if it works.

su-to-root -X -c ./msystem32 on antiX-sid

gives me this error.

Code:
./msystem32: symbol lookup error: ./msystem32: undefined symbol: _ZN9QListData11detach_growEPii

That could be a Qt problem? I've compiled the code in mepis11 with Qt 4.7 (IIRC). As a comparison, does the 'normal' msystem from mepis11 run on antiX?

Do you mean on the command line? Yes, that's what I see too.

However, I'm not sure how isohybrid affects the iso. Does it stop working as a DVD or affect it's functionality in any way? This is why the System Assistant makes a temporary copy of any isos before running isohybrid on them. If it's not harmful, I could do away with the copying.

I've found this info how isohybrid works:

Sector 0 of the CD gets an isolinux "Master Boot Record" and a partition table. The Boot code loads the same isolinux (no_emul-)boot image as the CDROM boot. CDROMs use a sector size of 2048 bytes, other disks usually 512 bytes. So addresses in sector 0 use 512-byte-sector addressing. FilesystemID in partition table is 0x83 (Linux). Partition tools and Windows drive managment show the whole drive as unallocated space or as unknown filesystem.

On boot the drive gets mounted as CDROM (e.g. sdb), sdb1 is also present, but of course inaccessible (not mountable), because there is no real disk filesystem. As you might know, W2K/XP and Vista do NOT support partitioning on removable drives, but there is a tiny Hitachi filter driver (cfadisk.sys), which enables the job. I tested it and voilà, you can even create a second primary "CDROM" partition (FAT16 or FAT32) on the CDROM image medium, which is flawlessly accessible by Windows and Linux.

Yes normal msystem works ok on antiX-sid.

Hmm... It definitely looks like an incompatibility error to me :confused2:
