 MEPIS remasters
(Not sure if this is the best place for this post...) Following up on a discussion in another thread, it seems to me that we should get community remasters listed and available on mepiscommunity.org, with appropriate caveat emptors. I guess MEPIS 8 and onward. Questions: 1) What remasters are out there, and how can we get the iso's? 2) Any criteria for listing? I suppose at the very least they should be tested in a VM to make sure they work? There are a few M8 remasters here: http://mepis.gabston-howell.org/download/remasters/, but that list is well out of date. Thanks.

 Re: MEPIS remasters
Anubis-Linux is a distro designed for Linux newbies, system programmers, and computer science enthusiasts. It was originally based on SimplyMepis 8, but now it consists of software mostly from Debian Sid. AL features: * free documentation to help you learn using and configuring Linux, write software, and more * a lot of low-level system programmer's tools (assemblers, compilers, debuggers) 1* * a selection of pentest tools (Wireshark, Packeth, kismet and many more) * can run many Win32 and DOS programs, and it can compile such programs as well * is easily remasterable, and offers tutorials and tools for homebrew OS development 2* * offers a selection of docs and libraries for game developers (OpenGL, SDL, Allegro) * Debian-based, and uses customised 2.6.31 kernel to support Sqlzma compression * uses KDE 3.5.10 as Desktop Environment (love it or hate it, I love it) The older versions have a Mepis 8.0/8.5 Mepis base, they all work swell, EXT4 installer. http://anubislinux.tk/The Gnome Versions are Mepis 8.0/8.5, One has EXT4 installer.

Has Gabston-Howell lost interest in Mepis?

 Re: MEPIS remasters
I still work on canabix sometimes. It's a rolling release based on debian testing, with LXDE desktop. I do use some packages from Mepis Community, and I originally started with Mepis 8, upgraded to testing, and removed all the Mepis packages and nearly all of KDE. I think both KDE and Gnome are on the wrong track, and I like LXDE very well. http://community.canabix.org/smf/index.php?topic=65.0Briefly, you can download it this way: wget -Nc http://arnoweb.net/canabix/canabix.iso --full version 1.2GB canalite.iso -- lite version 690MB (fits on a CD) now featuring towo's frickelplatz kernel!! Also, both these iso's are isohybrid -- that means you can boot from a stick -- build your usb like this: dd if=canabix.iso of=/dev/sdc bs=1M or dd if=canalite.iso of=/dev/sdc bs=1M UserID is 'canabix', password is 'live' to get root, sudo su ====================================================================================== The latest iso was built in April, it could be almost time to build a new one, or maybe I'll wait until I have a 3.0 kernel thoroughly tested. I use slh, towo, or liquorix kernels, and the liquorix 3.0 is not available yet. Mike

 Re: MEPIS remasters
what ever happened to the remaster script? I used to play around with that, decompressing the .iso, chrooting in, using xnest to check stuff out graphically. The only problem I had with it was that I couldn't install from a remastered image, even when I held back upgrading the kernel.
Has that been completely forgotten about with other tools being made available?

The remaster script works just fine for MEPIS 11 (and antiX-M11) http://www.mepis.org/docs/en/index.php? ... ing_script
