RESOLVED (Sort Of): WAV to MP3 issues (again)
I've once again found myself in MP3 encoder hell, only now with Mepis 11. I can't get K3b or XCFA to work at all. K3B complains the "command line" failed and XCFA says "libnotify" is the WRONG PACKAGE! I remember back in the day that K3b didn't work with lame 3.98, you had to use 3.97... but I'm not seeing that as a forceable option. Enabling swap byte and Wave Header didn't fix it either.
Now... before it is suggested to install SoundKonverter, or Asunder, or RipperX, I must be clear here that I'm not looking for a CD Ripper program, I'm looking for a file converter. Anyone having any success with K3b or XCFA?

Re: WAV to MP3 issues (again)
LOL... Actually, I have Audacity and I believe that works fine. But its not as easy to open an entire directory and convert all the files. In audacity, I have to load each audio file and convert. Also, lame command line seems works too (eg. lame -h -v file.wav file.mp3) but I'm not sure how to do more than one file at a time. I really like XCFA and would love to get that working; I guess I'm just looking for fix more-so than a workaround.

Re: WAV to MP3 issues (again)
Ummm, SoundKonverter is primarily a file converter program, not a a ripper. A CD track is just another kind of audio file that it will read, but it's primarily set up to accept files from the hard drive. Just highlight them, choose the output format and go. pacpl is another file converter that works quite well.

For paclpl, make sure to edit /etc/pacpl/codecs.conf and have MP3 files prefer lame. I just remove twolame from the list for MP3 codecs, leaving lame.

Re: WAV to MP3 issues (again)
Well bloody hell!!! Indeed, it would appear SoundKonverter will suffice as the alternative to XCFA and/or K3B. Seems to have worked (i.e... the MP3 didn't render as all static) and, to be honest, appears to be a nice and tidy front-end GUI for the command line options for Lame (seeing how you can select the "presets" for the ouput quality). Thanks for the heads up; SoundKonverter I shall use!!
Although slighly changing the subject, does anyone remember what app was installed to have a "quick convert" tool on your "right-click" menu? I think I installed something way back in Mepis 7.0, and I can't remember what that was. Perhaps that only worked in Konqueror and not Dolphin. UPDATE: Well nevermind. Looks like there's a PACPL-Convert already in my menu. Who knew?
