 New Wallpaper: Crimson Mepis Edition
So since I my last Mepis wallpapers opendesktop.org has had several outages. I already hade a hosted wordpress blog that I had never really done anything with so I decided to relaunch that, starting a gallery of my own. Bellow you will find a preview image accompanied by a link to the gallery page for the wallpaper. I designed this wallpaper on an aspect ratio basis. Once on the gallery page you'll see four download links with a list of screen resolutions beside. Find your screen resolution and download the corresponding aspect ratio and you should be good to go. now with out further jabbering I present Crimson Mepis Edition...Enjoy! http://www.dgf64art.com/wallpapers/mepis-linux/crimson-mepis-edition/

Re: New Wallpaper: Crimson Mepis Edition
Thank you. I've downloaded it and have it on my desktop now. I have to admit that I'm surprised that I like a red wallpaper. I've been partial to blue or dark ones up until now. I guess "Crimson" is dark enough and restrained enough for even me to like it.-)
I think something like this could finally shift Mepis away from its traditional blues.

Re: New Wallpaper: Crimson Mepis Edition
That's very good looking, nice job.
I personally prefer wallpapers that are not dead centered, but otherwise this would be in my top group.

Re: New Wallpaper: Crimson Mepis Edition
Hmm.. I am also a blue gal.. blue black.. dark in any case. I usually hate the wallpapers that have any sort of logo on it especially with text.. but on this one, I put it on the desktop and found myself going "Hmm.. I can get used to this I think". And I am NOT prone to change much.. been using the same wallpaper since 8.5 Good creation!

Re: New Wallpaper: Crimson Mepis Edition
Very nice. It was a bit blurred on my LCD, but applying the Gimp sharpen filter corrected that.

Re: New Wallpaper: Crimson Mepis Edition
Thanks everyone, glad you like it. I've actually had the background images it this one lying around on my hard drive for a while. Once of the guys on the Liquid Lemur dev team refers to himself as the resident sith. Obviously a starwars reference. So I thought it would be interesting to make the logo black with a red drop shadow and lay it on top of this wallpaper.
I was actually on the fence about a Mepis version because I know the Mepis crowd tends to be partial to blue. I can make a blue version of this if you guys really want one.

Re: New Wallpaper: Crimson Mepis Edition
I agree with this. I'd like to see what it looks like with the graphic in the lower right corner.

Re: New Wallpaper: Crimson Mepis Edition
Hey digitalfreedom64 It's nice to see a different look to the wallpaper. However, what that reminds me of is an image from a camera taken at very high ISO speeds with noise reduction not doing a very good job with Chroma Noise. For example, look at the very first patch on this page: http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutori ... oise-2.htmThat type of noise is particular ugly in images, and this wallpaper instantly reminded me of it. It also reminded me of how some noise reduction can be inefficient (resulting in "blotchy" type grain, versus finer grain). The softness of the logo also reminded me of how a camera's noise reduction can smooth detail. Again, perhaps it's just because I look at images from a variety of cameras all day long. But, that wallpaper immediately reminds me of a camera that's doing a terrible job at taking photos at higher ISO speeds, with inefficient noise reduction leading to blotchy chroma noise in the images. So, I'd sure appreciate it if you figured out a way to make it look smooth (or at least fine grained) versus blotchy.

Re: New Wallpaper: Crimson Mepis Edition
The red or ruby shades give the wallpaper a very elegant look. I also like the lettering. This would make a very nice splash screen, although it's a little too dark for wallpaper use.
