 Re: Microsoft has a Party
I've used the recovery partition several times on my IBM laptop, before I discovered imaging, and it was a real pain. It would obliterate all other partitions (Linux) and restore the machine to factory condition, including all the built-in cruft. Subsequently installing Linux with its GRUB would render the Win recovery partition useless. To do the whole process again would then require starting from scratch with recovery CDs (six of them) to restore the recovery partition so Windows could be restored from there, obliterating Linux in the process. Round and round we go.

I still have the 2-volume manual for MS DOS 6 (hard binders in a slip case). Only used 3 or 4 times! Phil

 Re: Microsoft has a Party
When I purchased my Lenovo, I told them (Lenovo) outright it would not be running Windows and they tried to say something about voiding warranty, but I very quickly overcame that "objection" by pointing out their server range shows the same hardware with Windows and Linux, so they should know better than to try to spin that line and legally, they have no grounds whatsoever to stand on if a hardware component failed and that I would hold them to account if they ever tried to use that tactic again. They then happily sold me the laptop with absolute knowledge and understanding that it was not going to run shoddy windows software and the 3 years warranty would remain fully intact.
I have had this laptop since shortly after the release of M8.5 and just completed a warranty claim for my DVD drive, the rep asked if I had uninstalled and reinstalled the drive, I simply replied that I am not subject to such ridiculous practices because I refuse to run the intolerably inefficient Microsoft system and have chosen the run Linux exclusively, which tells me no lies. I had a drive couriered to me the next day along with a pre-paid courier bag for the faulty units return.
As a side note, I removed the factory provided 5400rpm drive the day I got the laptop and installed my own 7200rpm unit, then upgraded again shortly afterwards to a Seagate Hybrid drive, which is lightning fast by comparison to the original, which I still have and use sometimes to test other Linux'es, but I find it slower than molasses in every respect. I like the Seagate so much, that when the Thailand floods caused HDD prices to skyrocket, I purchased a spare to keep on hand should I ever need it because my supplier only had 2 left in stock.
