 Webcam chat tool
Hello,
I can't find a chat tool that allows me to view, record or even chat with my webcam. Is that a known issue among the Mepis11 world or is it only me facing that problem?
I tried to look for information in Google and from what I understand it's an issue with MSN protocol that have lately changed...??? Could that be true?
Could it also be that my webcam is too old to operate properly with a 64bit architecture computer whatever the OS ?
Thanks for you help.

Guvcview works well. Kamoso is another.

 Re: Webcam chat tool
I am always reluctant to press install buttons on webpages. Not so much for security but for "what does this do". Can you tell me what it starts to do and where it puts stuff so I can get rid of it if I want to?

 Re: Webcam chat tool
It becomes a browser plugin and having tested it, I can look anybody in the eye and say with absolute certainty, IMHO, it is better than Skype and it uses less bandwidth.

 Re: Webcam chat tool
If you install Google's deb, it's easy to remove or check what files are installed.
Other video chat options are jitsi and Linphone.

 Re: Webcam chat tool
Hi all,
Thanks for your answers, it took me a little time to get back to you as I have tried to try all the solutions you provided me with except for the google chat tool yet. Unfortunately I still can't have webcam chat discussions...
First I could not find Kamoso, Lindphone or Jitsi in the Synaptic packages manager so I have absolutely no clue how to have them installed on my machine.
I installed Guvcview normally I guess however each time I run it my computer just stand still and the only way to get out of it is the ctrl-alt-sysreq REISUB trick I got in another post.
Last thing, when I try to run a video with vlc the same happens... computer stuck and ctrl-alt-sysreq REISUB to reboot...
Would someone have an idea of what goes wrong?
Thanks, Christophe.

 Re: Webcam chat tool
I agree with peregrine m_pav about Google Chat--much higher quality. Did you try that? http://www.google.com/talk/
