Web links from Thunderbird - Firefox vs Opera
Running M11
I'm trying to make Firefox default browser for Thunderbird web links but Opera is opening instead.
I've checked file assocation and Firefox is default for htm, html, xhtml and shtml. Also have Firefox set as default browser and have default set in Thunderbird for network.protocol-handler.app for the above file extensions as far as I can see.
Suggestions please.

Re: Web links from Thunderbird - Firefox vs Opera
It seems that all of your base settings are correct, so there must be something overriding them. Which browser is shown as default when you enter this in a konsole: The other thing to check is the Thunderbird settings: Edit > Preferences > Attachments and look for the associated application for http under "Content Type".

Re: Web links from Thunderbird - Firefox vs Opera
Look for an entry in user.js that points to Opera
Entries in user.js trump those in pref.js

Re: Web links from Thunderbird - Firefox vs Opera
Ran
update-alternatives --config x-www-browser
under root and Opera, choice 0, was default so I changed it to choice 1 for Firefox.
Going back to user, now no browser opens from web links in Thunderbird.
Where are files user.js and pref.js located ?
Have checked Thunderbird and Firefox is default for htm, html ...etc

They're in the hidden ./thunderbird directory in your /home, in the xxxxxxxx.default profile folder.

I think you might have to reboot to make that stick.

Re: Web links from Thunderbird - Firefox vs Opera
You may want to look at Edit>Preferences>Attachments in Thunderbird and make sure nothing is there overriding your default browser choice. See this Ubuntu related thread discussing trying to get Chrome working, with the last post indicating that if you delete any http related content choices under Attachments, it should use the default browser. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1670637I don't see anything there when I look at Preferences>Attachments in my Thunderbird install, and it's using Firefox (which is my default browser for everything).

Re: Web links from Thunderbird - Firefox vs Opera
I've checked everything and is is pointing to Firefox as default.
For the fun of it I uninstalled Opera then reinstalled Firefox - still no go.
Would someone, who uses Firefox by default, be kind enough to paste the content of their x-www-browser file please so I can have a look at the syntax.
Many thanks so far.

Re: Web links from Thunderbird - Firefox vs Opera
I changed my preference to FF first thing, but it is always Konq. that opens links... must be something hard coded in some init file....

Re: Web links from Thunderbird - Firefox vs Opera
A couple months ago I posted some instructions here for Dieselrider to get Thunderbird to open Firefox when clicking links in emails, I think they should still work. Ignore the part about installing FF9.0 if you already have a newer version installed (like FF10 or FF11).
