Ext2Fsd -- How Reliable Is It?
Since I use Windows so seldom, I'm considering converting my NTFS data partitions over to EXT4, but I still want to be able to have R/W access to them from Windows. My questions:
1. How reliable and safe is the Ext2Fsd driver for Windows; i.e, what is the risk of data loss or corruption of the partition? 2. Will Ext2Fsd work with EXT4, or only EXT2 and 3? 3. What would happen if an EXT2, 3, or 4 partition were mounted in Windows and I accidentally ran the disk defragmentation program on it?

Re: Ext2Fsd -- How Reliable Is It?
I have it installed on XP. I use it sparingly. It works, at least for reading ext4. I don't trust it to write. But that's just me.

Re: Ext2Fsd -- How Reliable Is It?
The Wikipedia article you cited has me believing I should consider EXT2 instead of EXT4.

This works for ext3: http://www.fs-driver.org/Check the FAQ regarding defragging.

Re: Ext2Fsd -- How Reliable Is It?
in addition to the ext3 info that UM posted, there's always NFS, SSH, samba, etc. if you need only intermittent access to the partition from windows

Well, the devs don't think it's ready for production systems yet. From the web site:

Re: Ext2Fsd -- How Reliable Is It?
I think the other options you list apply to sharing folders on two different machines. My aim is to share entire partitions between different OSes on the same machine. In reading further on the ext2 Windows driver, it seems it allows you to access ext2 partitions from a file browser, but I'm not sure about accessing ext2 partitions from other applications, such as an e-mail client. For example, could Thunderbird access my e-mail on an ext2 partition from Windows?
