 Re: Whoa there, Trigger!
That is unnecessary. As he said in his email, this proposal is "subject to change" and it is our job to provide well-informed and well-considered feedback.

 Re: Whoa there, Trigger!
Time for a "suggestions/wish list" thread? Maybe an m12 alpha/beta forum?

Feedback to what? We don't have much information other than version number and that Warren is working on it...

 Re: Whoa there, Trigger!
We ran a good one when we were thinking it was going to be M 11.5, and I am not sure it is worth while ATM to repeat it. The feedback I believe we should be aiming for is on the large concept level as he lays it out in his email, not in details--yet.

 Re: Whoa there, Trigger!
Very interesting indeed! I think it is a good idea, since holding onto the Squeeze base might be a little antiquated anyways. Also, as it has already been noted, it might be the shot in the arm Mepis needs moving forward. Just assuming here, but Warren will be using the KDE supported by Debian in Wheezy (currently 4.7.4, but read somewhere the plan is to use 4.8.4 or the newest stable branch as of Wheezy's release)? Where in the past he usually offered a newer version of KDE than the one offered in Debian Stable, which was a nice selling point for Mepis IMHO. Logically, wouldn't it be the other way around, where 12.0 (being based on Testing) is an experimental release and 13.0 (being based on Stable), well, be stable. Although I do understand his reasoning. When Warren releases a final product, despite what is based on, it is usually very high quality and very stable. Also, wasn't there some issues years ago with a Mepis release based on Testing? Maybe not a first, but over time? All and all though, I am looking forward to a new Mepis release and am ready to test!

 Re: Whoa there, Trigger!
Yay for us - yay for Mepis Thanks to Warren One question I have - Is anyone aware or has any informed guess on what version of KDE would be included in 12?

 Re: Whoa there, Trigger!
Let's assume for the moment Warren is going to use the version that is already in Wheezy, thus 4.7.4 for 12.0. But, from the KDE Maintainer's mailing list: Whole thread here: http://lists.debian.org/debian-kde/2012/03/msg00011.htmlThus 13.0 would have 4.8.x. Although I hope I am wrong and we see the newest KDE in 12.0.

 Re: Whoa there, Trigger!
Big picture, I'd be interested in knowing Wheezy -- presumably updateable through testing> stable? Kernel? KDE version? Grub2 presumably? Installer -- build in the ability to install across partitions on separate hard drives? Xorg -- any chance a new version of the MEPIS Xorg tool could be implemented? A gui front end for sgfxi (if that's even possible)? Anything else I can think of would fall into the "included applications" category, which to me is pretty unimportant -- we can all add/remove what we want. Time to crank up the artwork.

That's easy to do. Submit wallpapers to the art gallery. http://www.mepiscommunity.org/artworkHenry
