Re: Warren is looking for help I am not sure where Kubuntu gets their KDE versions, but I have not experienced these problems running KDE 4.8.1 thru KDE 4.8.4 under Kubuntu.
I do recall kmix consuming large CPU cycles early in the game, but corrections came through quickly. Re: Warren is looking for help I'm using A fresh install of M11 when it was first available. It was then upgraded thru the CR to 4.6.5. Again, from the CR, to 4.7.4. I then added the wheezy and experimental repos and upgraded to 4.8. Yesterday 4.8.4 was completed for the upgrade on my computer.
I have the following set up:
I have not seen any problems with the wifi nor kmix. Now I'm using wicd to manage the wifi. This set up has been running very good with no hiccups that can recall. Re: Warren is looking for help Assuming M12 beta is based on wheezy/testing ... I've tried two separate upgrades of Debian systems from stable to testing in the past couple weeks -- the last, just yesterday -- and there appear to be serious problems that have recently emerged in the wheezy repos. I ran into dependency issues with the libkonq packages, and found filed bug reports from over a week ago that remain unaddressed. I guess it's not surprising with the recent freeze, but still, after 7 years of running Debian, I'd have to say testing is in the worst state I've ever seen it. Others in the Debian community have been complaining of the same lately as well. I've never seen a dist-upgrade fail so epically.
Anyway, all the more reason I appreciate Warren's efforts, and the efforts of this community. :) If I had the technical skills I would certainly volunteer to help, but I really don't. To turn out the quality of release that I've seen from Mepis is a lot of work ... and I'm glad to be patient under current circumstances. |

big guys  M11 64bit wheezy, antix sid, antix wheezy and a few um.. others... wondered what he meant by instabilities, but no i haven’t seen them around here. just the usual with nvidia... and xorg... something changed with one of my conky scripts for awhile, minimal damages... (although i do remember needing to edit /etc/network/interfaces on one of them) he'll get it sorted have one that's qq “cute bird” running 64bit 3.5.0-3 or something like that with kde 4.8.9, I think. what i found was that if i disable the kde wallet it made the boot about 8 to 10 seconds longer  i left it off ;-)this one >>

IIRC siduction uses KDE SC. Not sure if it is the same as the KDE in Testing/Unstable. Added: Shows what little I know about KDE. Re: Warren is looking for help I have the occasional hiccup with Kmix, but that seems to be because I have two sound cards. I don't use KnetworkManager, I use WICD instead.

I've been running Wheezy for about 7 months. For the most part I find it to be solid except for Network-Manager, which committed suicide a couple of months back after an update, killing off my PC's wired connection. Where the connection icon was supposed to be in the tray, there was only a big red X. My solution was to remove Network-Manager and install WICD, which remains to the present. The situation was the same with SID. Last week I decided to find out if things had been corrected (with SID), so I swapped WICD for Network-Manager again. It was a disaster, with no wired connection with either one. (I always remove one before trying the other). I finally found I could establish a working wired connection with dhclient eth0 in a terminal, but that was not reflected by the icon.
